Netflix: Sanjay Leela Bhansali to direct FIRST SIX episodes of Heera Mandi

Heera Mandi will be the first opulent series of Netflix that will be directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Bhansali initially, was supposed to serve as a producer of all the episodes of the series but as per Bollywood Hungama, a source of them said “Heera Mandi is Bhansali’s dream project for 12 years now. The only reason he is not helming it officially is because he is busy with the post-production of his directorial project Gangubai Kathiawadi.”

The source also added, “There are seven episodes in Heera Mandi. Bhansali will now direct the first episode. The rest of the 6 episodes will be directed by Vibhu Puri while Bhansali will supervise the project,”

Heera mandi which is also known as Shahi Mohallah is a red light area of Lahore. It is named after Hira Singh Nabha and is located inside the Walled City of Lahore, near the Taxali Gate, and south of the Badshahi Mosque.

The series will star Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi, while the rest is yet to reveal. Earlier Huma was finalised for the role of one of the sex worker.

Bhansali is known for his outstanding work in Khamoshi: The Musical (1996), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Devdas (2002), Black (2005), Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), and Bajirao Mastani (2015). Sanjay Leela Bhansal had also won several awards like Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India and the National Film award.
