Sourav Ganguly’s biopic announced; developments in Subrata Roy’s biopic also out

Producers Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg have announced a biopic on legendary cricketer Sourav Ganguly. The former India captain and current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly himself tweeted out the news this morning. While the date of release for the biopic is yet to be revealed, it will be produced by Luv Films and could be directed by Luv Ranjan. More details are awaited.

Director Luv Ranjan tweeted, “It is more than an honour to have Dada in the Luv Films family! Thank you for making us a part of your life and letting us share it with the world.” Ganguly played in 113 Tests and scored 7,212 runs for India while finishing with 11,363 runs in 311 ODIs. Fondly known as The Prince of Kolkata, he was one of the most successful captains for India, taking the team to the final of the ODI World Cup in 2003 and to greater heights in Tests.

This movie will capture Sourav Ganguly’s journey from being the Indian captain and winning international accolades for the country to being the BCCI president. No lead actor has been announced by the makers yet. However, the former Indian captain had previously expressed that he would recommend Ranbir Kapoor to play his role in the biopic.

Bollywood has also previously produced biopics of sportspersons as MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin, hockey player Sandeep Singh, Saina Nehwal, Milkha Singh, and Mary Kom.

Another inside detail of Subrata Roy’s biopic is in the news today. This biopic first made headlines last month when it was announced that Sandeep Singh had acquired the rights of the film. Now is the news that two of the industry’s legends, A. R. Rahman and Gulzar will compose and pen lyrics respectively for this biopic. The film is reported to be one that will span several continents and traverse the tycoon’s journey over the decades. Produced by Sandeep Singh, the title and cast of the biopic are expected to be announced shortly.
