The OTT platforms these days have proliferated big time. There are huge players in the market and the viewership has also increased manifold. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to state that the young audiences are gravitating towards the OTT platforms gradually. Having said that, one thing that has always been a case of much debate in this arena and that is the censor board. There have been many pleas and arguments about censoring the OTT content. Even though nothing has concretely materialised till date, the need for the censor to be there is surely a hot topic.
There is myriad variety of content on social media and pornography happens to be a major cash-puller. Many are making applications and are selling porn on them in the name of erotica. It was during one of our interactions with actress Mahie Gill who is garnering praises for her role in Raktanchal 2 that she opened up about vulgar content on OTT.
The actress doesn’t shy away from admitting that she is genuinely concerned about the state of affairs especially because she has a five and half year old daughter. She feels that if such a scene is well-blended with the script and it is the requirement of the story she is unfazed about it but if the makers are cramming in sex scenes just for the heck of it then it surely isn’t right.
She stated, “I have a five and half year old daughter. Sometimes when she is watching tabs or other content on social media, I always have to keep notice of what she is watching because she never know. But I personally feel, yes there are certain people , they are putting such dirty content just for the sake of it. believe, if there are such scenes and you are putting these scenes in co-relation to the story and you are justifying the scenes, I don’t think it is wrong but at the same time, you come to know that some people are doing it just for the sake of doing it. And, that is wrong. I believe you are butchering your body of work, I don’t believe in that.”
She went on to say that everybody does have the freedom of showcasing what they want to but it is the duty of the parents to keep a close check on what their children are consuming on tabs and phones, “Otherwise I feel everybody has the freedom to showcase what they want to. I would have never said this earlier because I have a daughter, I feel I really have to be responsible about it and make sure what she watches is appropriate. It is very important. Parents have to keep a check on their kids because it is crucial.”
