The Swarsamragyi, the nightingale of India, Bharat Ratna Smt. Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last today, the 6th February, 2022 in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. The songstress was admitted to the hospital after she got infected with the COVID-19 virus and thereafter developed Pneumonia.
As we write this story, the legend has been cremated at Shivaji Park, Mumbai in the presence of family members, worshippers, fans, people from the film industry and politics.
The singer has been cremated with full state honours. The Maharashtra government has also announced two days of state mourning. During the mourning period the national flag will be flown at half-mast from February 6 to 7th throughout the country.
PM Narendra Modi arrived from Delhi to pay his last respects. The who’s who of the Bollywood film fraternity from Shah Rukh Khan to Ranbir Kapoor paid their last respects to the late singer.
It was Dr Pratit Samdani of Breah Candy hospital who announed the news of Lataji’s death on social media. He wrote, ““It is with profound grief that we announce the demise of Lata Mangeshkar at 8:12am. She has died because of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalisation post #COVID19.”
