As many as 50 countries including Canada, Nigeria, Panama, and Uganda have shown interest in adopting the CoWin platform. Various health and technology from different countries are expected to participate in the event, which will be inaugurated by Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan.

Foreign secretary HV Shringla, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, and Dr. RS Sharma, the CEO of the National Health Secretary (NHA), are also expected to speak at the event.

The conclave aims to share India’s experience with regard to universal vaccination to fight COVID-19 through CoWin, the NHA said in a statement posted on its website.

The event, being organized in a joint initiative by the Union Minister of health, external affairs, and the NHA, aims to share India’s experience with regard to universal vaccination to fight against Covid-19 through CoWIN.

What is CoWIN?

The full form of CoWIN is Covid Vaccine Intelligence Work. It was introduced by the central government in January when the vaccination drive against Covid-19 began in the country. It is a website for beneficiaries and officials associated with vaccination process, there is different mobile application as well.

Key Features

The e-portal allows beneficiaries to book a vaccination slot. They can choose a day and time slot as per their preference. The beneficiaries can register at the website with their phone number. They will then receive an OTP to be entered in the required field. The beneficiary will then be asked to enter Aadhaar details and can move forward to book their vaccination. It also allows the user to add four family members in their profile and book slots for them as well.

PM Modi tweeted: “The #DarkDaysOfEmergency can never be forgotten. The period from 1975 to 1977 witnessed a systematic destruction of institutions. Let us pledge to do everything possible to strengthen India’s democratic spirit, and live up to the values enshrined in our Constitution.”

PM Modi further shared an Instagram link and quoted: “This is how Congress trampled over our democratic ethos. We remember all those greats who resisted the Emergency and protected Indian democracy. #DarkDaysOfDemocracy”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted that the emergency was imposed to quell the voices against one family. He tweeted: “The Emergency imposed to quell the voices against one family is a dark chapter in the history of independent India. Salute to the sacrifice and sacrifice of all the countrymen who fought relentlessly for the protection of the constitution and democracy of the country while suffering the brutal tortures of the ruthless rule for 21 months.”

“On this day in 1975, Congress killed the world’s largest democracy by imposing emergency on the country in the interest and arrogance of power. Innumerable Satyagrahis were imprisoned overnight in the prison cell and locked the press. Taking away the fundamental rights of the citizens, made the Parliament and the court a mute spectator,” Shah further added.

Well, the emergency was imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The emergency was in effect from June 25, 1975, until its withdrawal on March 21, 1977.
