Actor Surekha Sikri just passes away, 75

TV show Balika badhu actress Surekha Sikri passed away in Mumbai at the age of 75 due to cardiac arrest.

The veteran actress had also appeared in various projects like Badhai Ho, Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil etc. The actress made her debut in the year 1978 political drama film Kissa Kursi Ka and later played various supporting roles in Hindi and Malayalam films.

Sureksha Sikri was born in 19 April 1945 and won several awards that includes National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress, MORE. The actress gained her popularity in the primetime soap opera Balika Vadhu for which she was awarded the Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Negative Role in 2008 and Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 2011. She had also done theatres, and won Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1989 for her contributions towards Hindi theater. The actress was last seen in the Netflix anthology Ghost Stories which was directed by Zoya Akhtar.

The veteran actor was suffering for quite a long time and had suffered a brain stroke in 2020 and a paralytic stroke earlier in 2018. Her manager confirmed the news of her death to indianexpress.com. He said, “Three-time national award winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram.”
